Marta de Azevedo Irving is Full Professor at the Post-Graduate Program in Community Psychosociology and Social Ecology (EICOS/IP /UFRJ) and at the Post-Graduate Program in Public Policies, Strategies and Development (PPED/IE/UFRJ). She is Coordinator of the Chair of the Environment of the Brazilian College of High Studies (Science and Culture Forum (CBAE/FCC UFRJ) and senior researcher at the National Institute of Science and Technology in Public Policies, Strategies and Development (INCT-PPED/CNPq). She has an interdisciplinary academic profile, with degrees in Biology (UFRJ) and Psychology (UERJ), a Master in Coastal Management (Southampton University) and a PhD in Sciences (University of São Paulo). Senior Post-Doctorate in Social Management of Biodiversity at the Ecology and Biodiversity Management Department of the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and at School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) both in Paris, France. Invited professor and researcher at the Men, Nature and Societies Department at MNHN and IREST/Paris 1 (France), in addition to the Department of Geography at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and the Oslo and Akershus College of Applied Sciences (Norway). In her professional career, she has conducted an ethical and critical reflection on the field of sustainability, in the light of Social and Political Ecology, with a focus on the socio-environmental development agenda and with an emphasis on social management of biodiversity, in its interfaces with connected public policies. Her research deals with the subjectivities associated with the relationship between nature and culture in contemporary times and its repercussions on the global and national development agendas. Based on the perspective of sustainability and environmental governance, some themes are currently associated with her research projects, such as biodiversity conservation, protected areas and heritage, in conjunction with the climate issue and related sectoral policies, in the light of the 2030 Agenda; culture, heritage and traditional peoples and populations rights; leisure, ethical and sustainable tourism; local development and participatory metodologies, social technologies as instruments for community based action, among others. She is a CNPq Productivity Scholar and coordinates the Governance, Environment, Public Policies, Inclusion and Sustainability Research Groups (GAPIS/Lattes/CNPq) and the Synergy Research Group: Subjectivities, Tourism, Nature and Culture (Sinergia/Lattes/CNPq), in addition to the PRINT/CAPES International Cooperation Project on Sustainability and Social Transformation: Towards the 2030 Agenda. Her curriculum includes numerous master dissertations and doctoral theses advising, in addition to the authorship of books and scientific articles in the field of Applied Social Sciences.
